The awards were presented on April 8, 2025, in New Delhi, with Shai Kupar War, Aadhaar nodal officer from the General Administration Department, receiving them on behalf of the state. This recognition highlights Meghalaya’s commitment to effective Aadhaar rollout, even amidst resistance from protest groups like the Awaken India Movement.

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Legends of Endoscopy’ award by a community of Japanese gastroenterologists, in recognition of his groundbreaking work in Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy. The award was presented at the Tokyo Live Global Endoscopy 2025 event held at SHOWA Medical University Koto Toyosu Hospital, Tokyo.

Mohun Bagan Wins ISL 2024-25

Mohun Bagan Super Giant made history by winning the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) title with a 2-1 victory over Bengaluru FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. This victory was special for multiple reasons: it was the first time an ISL final was won at home, and Mohun Bagan became the first team to achieve a season double by securing both the ISL title and the ISL League Shield.

Sourav Ganguly re-appointed as Chairperson of ICC men’s cricket committee

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chairperson of the ICC men’s cricket committee and his longtime national teammate VVS Laxman too has been picked again as one the panel members. Ganguly, who led the Indian team with distinction for five years from 2000 to 2005, was first appointed as the committee’s chair in 2021. Ganguly, 52, has replaced compatriot Anil Kumble, who stepped down after serving a maximum of three, three-year terms.

Telangana Becomes First State to Implement SC Sub-Categorisation

The Telangana government has become the first in India to implement Scheduled Castes (SC) sub-categorisation, following the Supreme Court’s approval. On April 14, 2025—coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary—the state issued a Government Order (GO) enforcing the Telangana Scheduled Castes (Rationalization of Reservations) Act, 2025. The move aims to rationalize the existing 15% SC reservation by dividing 59 SC sub-castes into three groups based on inter-se backwardness, thus ensuring more equitable distribution of benefits.
