24th International Mother Teresa Awards Celebrated in Dubai
The 24th International Mother Teresa Awards Ceremony took place on August 26, 2024, at Millennium Plaza Dubai, marking the 114th birth anniversary of the esteemed humanitarian. Organized by the All-India Minority and Weaker Sections Council, this event was held outside India for only the second time, with both international ceremonies occurring in Dubai. Established posthumously after Mother Teresa’s death in 1997, the awards honor exceptional individuals across various sectors including education, science, culture, sports, social work, medicine, industry, and politics.

Indian Prodigy Triumphs at Asian U-15 Junior Badminton Championships 2024
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, 14-year-old Tanvi Patri from Odisha, India, has etched her name in the annals of badminton history. Patri clinched the women’s singles title at the prestigious Asian U-15 Junior Championships 2024, held in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China, from August 20-25, 2024.
Ronak Dahiya wins Bronze in U-17 Wrestling Championship
Indian wrestler Ronak Dahiya won bronze medal in Men’s Greco-Roman 110 kilograms event at Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Jordan. Dahiya defeated Turkish wrestler Emrullah Capkan 6-1 in the crucial medal match. With this, India has finished their campaign in Men’s Greco-Roman category with two Bronze medals in the championship as Sainath Pardhi also secured Bronze in GR 51 kilograms category.
Neeraj Chopra won silver in Lausanne Diamond League
Star Indian javelin throw athlete Neeraj Chopra registered a season-best throw of 89.49m at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024, in his first competitive appearance since he bagged silver for the nation at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 26-year-old was edged out by Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who claimed the top spot in Switzerland with a mammoth throw of 90.81m. Julian Weber of Germany came in third on the day with a best throw of 87.08m. The top six javelin throwers in the season’s standings qualify for the final in Belgium slated to be held on the 14th of September.

Nasscom Appoints Sindhu Gangadharan as New Chairperson
The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), India’s premier IT industry body, has announced a significant change in its leadership. Sindhu Gangadharan, the Managing Director of SAP Labs India, has been appointed as the new chairperson of Nasscom. This appointment marks a crucial moment in the organization’s history and sets the stage for new directions in India’s technology sector.
Govind Mohan To Take Charge As Union Home Secretary
Senior IAS officer Govind Mohan on August 22, will take charge as the new Union Home Secretary from Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who completes his five year tenure at the sensitive post, official sources said. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on August 21, appointed 1989-Sikkim cadre IAS officer Govind Mohan as the next Home Secretary. Mohan will replace Ajay Kumar Bhalla upon completion of his tenure on August 22.
