The Global Peace Index (GPI) 2026 is the 20th edition of the report and ranks 163 independent states and territories, covering 99.7% of the world’s population. India has been ranked 127th out of 163 countries in the GPI 2026. The ranking is based on 23 indicators grouped under Societal Safety and Security, Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and Militarisation. Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world for the 19th consecutive year, followed by New Zealand, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Ireland.
