World observes World Thalassemia Day  every year om 8th May to spread the awareness about thalassemia. It is serious inherited blood disorder which affects millions of people worldwide. This day also honors those patients and families who are battling with this disease and promoting the better healthcare access, early diagnosis, prevention and support systems. For this year it will observed on 8th May, on Friday and multiple healthcare organizations, patient associations, governments and medical professionals organizing the awareness campaigns and educational activities worldwide.

Every year on 8th of May world celebrates the World Red Cross Day. This day marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant who had founded the International Red Cross Movement after witnessing the suffering which caused during war. Every year this day recognizes the efforts of millions of volunteers, healthcare workers and humanitarian staff who have provided emergency support during disasters, wars, medical crises and humanitarian emergencies.

NASA has successfully tested a high-power plasma engine that could play a major role in future human missions to Mars. The test was conducted by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California on 24 February 2026. The experimental propulsion system, known as a magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) thruster, achieved 120 kilowatts of power during testing. According to NASA, this is the highest-power electric propulsion system ever tested in the United States.

Jeremiah Manele Prime Minister of Solomon islands lost a no confidence vote in Parliament on May 7, 2026. It brings the end of his government after months of political instability. The vote was passed by 26 votes to 22 in the 50 member Parliament of Solomon Islands. After the outcome Parliament was adjourned to allow the Governor General to begin arrangements for the election of the new Prime Minister.

India officially opened its Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2026 in Venice, Italy. The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and senior international cultural dignitaries. The Pavilion of India presents the exhibition titled “Geographies of Distance: remembering home”, which explores themes of memory, migration, belonging, and cultural identity through contemporary Indian art.
