The World Athletics Day celebrated by millions of people every year on May 7. This day promote the fitness, sportsmanship and healthy living through athletics. The day also encourages people of all the ages and specially children and teenagers to participate in sports such as running, jumping and throwing. World Athletics Day 2026 falls on Thursday and it continues its mission of inspiring the young people to stay active in rapidly changing digital world. The 2025 theme was ‘Relay Around the World Challenge’

Soma Mandal has been awarded with the South Asia regional winner of the prestigious Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards 2026. She was recognized for her   outstanding contribution to the environmental and climate change education. The award was announced by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and they have recognized Mandal’s work for encouraging students to actively engage with environmental issues and to fight against climate change.

Indian journalists Anand RK and Suparna Sharma, along with Natalie Obiko Pearson, won the Pulitzer Prize in the Illustrated Reporting and Commentary category for a Bloomberg report exposing cybercrime in India. Aniruddha Ghosal won in the International Reporting category for investigating the US Border Patrol’s use of mass-surveillance tools developed in Silicon Valley and China.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati appointed as the new Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It was announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 6th May and will continue for three years. Vempati will succeeds the Prasoon Joshi who recently took over as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati. He is known for having strong background in media, broadcasting, technology and public communication.

Kumar Mangalam Birla has been appointed as new Non-Executive Chairman of Vodafone Idea Limited. His new role will comes in effect from May 5, 2026. It will marks the leadership transition when the VI as telecom operator is focusing on to strengthening its business operations. As Ravinder Takkar has stepped down from the position of Non Executive Chairman and he will now erve as the Non-Executive Vice Chairman of the company.

Sikkim becomes the first state in India to achieve a fully paperless judiciary, announced by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant at a conclave in Gangtok. A paperless judiciary system enables e-filing, virtual hearings, digital records, and real-time case tracking, ensuring faster, transparent, and efficient justice delivery.
