National Broadcasting Day, observed on July 23 every year, commemorates the start of organised radio broadcasting in India with the formation of the Indian Broadcasting Company (IBC) in 1927. It celebrates the role of All India Radio (AIR) in shaping public communication, education, and national integration over nearly a century. From Akashvani to modern digital broadcasting, India’s radio journey has seen transformative milestones.

National Mango Day is celebrated every year on July 22 in India to honour the cultural, nutritional, and economic importance of mangoes, often hailed as the ‘King of Fruits’. India is the largest producer of mangoes in the world, with popular varieties like Alphonso, Dussehri, Kesar, Langra, and Banganapalli enjoyed across the country. The day is marked by fruit festivals, mango-eating contests, culinary showcases, and awareness about sustainable farming and export potential of mangoes.

National Flag Day is observed every year on 22nd July to commemorate the adoption of the Indian National Flag by the Constituent Assembly in 1947, just before Independence. The tricolour flag consists of saffron (courage), white (peace), green (prosperity), with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra (wheel of law) with 24 spokes in the centre. The flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and Gandhian from Andhra Pradesh, whose design was later modified and adopted as the official flag.

The Indian Army has officially received its first batch of Apache AH-64E attack helicopters from the United States. This induction marks a significant step in enhancing the Army Aviation Corps’ operational firepower and aligns with India’s broader defense modernization agenda. The Apache AH-64E is a combat-proven multi-role attack helicopter developed by Boeing. The Indian Air Force inducted Apaches in 2019, but this is the first induction for the Indian Army.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will retire the iconic MiG-21 fighter jets by September 2025, ending their six-decade-long service in India’s military aviation. These jets, once the backbone of the IAF, are being phased out amid concerns over safety and to make way for the more advanced indigenously developed LCA Tejas Mark 1A. First inducted in 1963, the MiG-21 was India’s first supersonic fighter aircraft, developed by the Soviet Union.  Over the decades, it played crucial roles in several conflicts, including the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, 1999 Kargil War, and the 2019 Balakot airstrike. 

In a landmark achievement for India’s performing arts, mentalist Suhani Shah from Rajasthan has become the first Indian to win the ‘Best Magic Creator 2025’ award at the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (FISM)—popularly known as the Oscars for magicians. The award was presented at the prestigious FISM World Championship held in Torino, Italy, recognizing her excellence in the online category of magic.

Jharkhand is set to become the first Indian state to launch a Mining Tourism Project, aiming to showcase its rich mineral heritage through guided mine tours and cultural experiences. This initiative, led by the state government and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), seeks to diversify tourism while educating the public about mining practices and local history.

A series of powerful earthquakes recently struck Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, with the most intense tremor recorded at 7.4 magnitude. The epicentre was located offshore, 144 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a shallow depth of 20 km. Although an initial tsunami warning was issued, it was later withdrawn by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.
