On July 7, 2025, the world celebrated World Bioproduct Day, an event dedicated to spreading awareness about sustainable bioproducts. First observed in 2021, the day highlights eco-friendly innovations that support a greener future and climate action. Various countries, including India, took part in sharing progress, achievements, and new goals in the bioeconomy sector.

Every year on July 7, the world celebrates World Swahili Language Day to honor the importance of the Swahili language, which is widely spoken in East Africa. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared this day in 2022 to recognize Swahili as a powerful tool for unity, communication, and culture. It is the first African language to be given such a global honor by the UN.

The three-day Sakambari festival began on July 7, 2025, at the Kanaka Durga Temple on Indrakeeladri hill in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The event is a special occasion where the presiding deity is adorned as Sakambari Devi, the goddess of nourishment and vegetation. It holds deep cultural and religious importance, drawing devotees from across the state. The Sakambari festival is known for its unique tradition of decorating the goddess with vegetables, fruits, green leaves, and flowers. On the first day of the festival, about 10 tonnes of fresh produce were offered by devotees and donors. 

V. Vedachalam, a well-known archaeologist and Tamil epigraphist, has been awarded the Tamil Wikki Suran Award as he enters his 51st year in the field. The award was presented to him in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, in recognition of his long and passionate work in history and archaeology. Even at the age of 75, Mr. Vedachalam continues to inspire many through his dedication.

Magnus Carlsen, the world’s top chess player, has won the SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz 2025 tournament held in Zagreb, Croatia. He secured the title on July 7, 2025, with one round to spare. The event is part of the Grand Chess Tour and brings together top chess players from around the world. This win shows Carlsen’s strong form, while India’s D Gukesh also impressed by finishing third. The SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz is a fast-paced chess event where players compete in two formats—Rapid and Blitz. Magnus Carlsen played very well throughout and confirmed his win by drawing with India’s R Praggnanandhaa in the second-last round. 

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The event took place yesterday evening and is part of the World Athletics Gold-level series. Neeraj won the title with a throw of 86.18 metres, continuing his top form in international javelin competitions.

The Haryana government has announced that it will build Asia’s largest jungle safari in the Aravalli Hills. The project was shared on July 6, 2025, and it will cover around 10,000 acres of forest land.
