World Malaria Day 2025

World Malaria Day is observed annually on April 25 to raise awareness and rally global efforts toward eliminating malaria one of the deadliest yet preventable parasitic diseases. Malaria remains a major global health issue, with 263 million cases and nearly 6 lakh deaths reported in 2023 alone, as per WHO. Despite being both preventable and curable, the disease disproportionately affects tropical and low-income regions. This day aims to highlight progress, challenges, and the urgent need for reinvestment and innovation in the fight against malaria.
Theme for 2025: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”
This theme calls for grassroots action, renewed investment, and innovation to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination. It emphasizes that every individual, community, and policymaker plays a crucial role in eradicating malaria.

Exercise ‘Aakraman’ Indian Air Force Drills with Rafales and Su-30s

Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted major military drills, named Exercise ‘Aakraman,’ simulating attacks on both mountain and ground targets. The exercise, which involved India’s most advanced fighter jets, including the Rafale and Su-30MKI aircraft, aimed to test and enhance the IAF’s capabilities in complex combat scenarios. With rising tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack, this exercise demonstrates the IAF’s readiness to defend India’s airspace and respond to any potential threats.

Kumar Mangalam Birla to Receive Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award 2024

Kumar Mangalam Birla, the 57-year-old Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, will be conferred with the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award on April 24, 2024, in a grand ceremony to be held at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Auditorium in Vile Parle East, Mumbai. The award will be presented by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat at 6:30 pm.

Vithya, Yashas win 400 m hurdles titles in National Federation Senior Athletics Competition 2025

Olympian Vithya Ramraj won gold in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition in Kochi, clocking 56.04 seconds to qualify for the Asian Championships 2025. Her time also set a new meet record, surpassing Saritaben Gayakwad’s 2019 mark of 57.21 seconds. Anu R finished second with 58.26 seconds, while Ashwini R took third with 1 minute 2.41 seconds.

RBI Permits Minors Above 10 to Operate Bank Accounts Independently

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued revised directions allowing minors aged 10 years and above to independently open and operate savings and term deposit accounts. This move, aimed at promoting early financial literacy, will empower minors to manage money responsibly, within a safe and supervised banking environment. However, the RBI has set clear operational limits and conditions based on the bank’s risk management policy, and banks are required to ensure that minor accounts do not go into overdraft and maintain a credit balance at all times.
