National Maritime Day is celebrated annually on April 5 to honor India’s rich maritime heritage and the vital role the maritime sector plays in national trade and security. The day pays tribute to the contributions of the shipping industry in domestic and international transportation, while also recognizing the efforts of maritime professionals who ensure the smooth functioning of sea-based logistics, trade routes, and national defense.

Samata Diwas is celebrated every year on April 5 to remember the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram, a great leader and social reformer. He worked hard for equality and justice in society. This day is a public holiday in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. People remember his work and take inspiration to fight against discrimination and injustice. Babu Jagjivan Ram, lovingly called “Babuji,” was a freedom fighter, a social justice leader and a great speaker.

Sawaminarayan Jayanti is the special day when the birth of Shri Swaminarayan or Sahajanand Swami is celebrated. He was a great saint, yogi and spiritual leader. He taught people to follow truth, non-violence, and celibacy. His followers believe he was an avatar (divine form) of Lord Krishna. Swaminarayan Jayanti is celebrated on the ninth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Chaitra. This day also falls on Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Ram.

The INDRA 2025 exercise, a bilateral naval drill between India and Russia, was conducted from March 28 to April 2, 2025. This marks the 14th edition of the exercise, which aims to strengthen maritime cooperation and enhance the ability of both navies to jointly counter maritime security challenges. The exercise involved a range of activities and operational drills to foster interoperability, promoting peace, stability, and the security of global maritime routes.

The Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM), developed jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries, has successfully passed critical trials, proving its operational capability for the Indian Army. The MRSAM Army version of the missile system is designed to target and destroy a wide range of aerial threats at varying altitudes and ranges, enhancing India’s defense capabilities. The four successful flight tests mark major milestones in the system’s operational readiness, validating the system’s ability to intercept high-speed aerial targets.

Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has officially taken over as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), succeeding Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva. The report highlights that India is part of a group of developing countries outperforming expectations, and is also a key player in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
