Japanese mathematician Masaki Kashiwara has been awarded the 2025 Abel Prize for his exceptional contributions to algebraic analysis and representation theory. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters honoured the 78-year-old mathematician for his pioneering work in developing D-modules and discovering crystal bases, which have had a significant impact on modern mathematics. The Abel Prize remains one of the most prestigious awards in mathematics, often considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize in this field.

India and Russia Conduct 14th Edition of Maritime Bilateral Exercise – INDRA 2025

India and Russia are set to conduct the 14th edition of the bilateral naval exercise, INDRA 2025, from March 28 to April 2, 2025, off the coast of Chennai and in the Bay of Bengal. Since its inception in 2003, Exercise INDRA has been a symbol of the strategic partnership between the Indian Navy and Russian Navy, aimed at improving naval interoperability and operational coordination.

Thai PM Declares Emergency After Myanmar Earth Quake

On March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing widespread panic and structural damage in Bangkok, Thailand. The Thai government, led by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, declared a state of emergency as tremors led to evacuations and the collapse of an under-construction skyscraper. The earthquake’s epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Rescue operations are underway as authorities assess the impact.
