World Habitat Day, celebrated annually on the first Monday of October, is a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the fundamental right to housing. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985, the day serves as a reminder that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. This year the day was celebrated on the 7th of October.

This year’s theme focuses on the crucial role of young people in shaping the future of cities. It recognizes their unique perspectives, creativity, and potential to drive positive change. By engaging youth, we can create more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient urban environments.

As the world marks the fifth anniversary of World Cotton Day on October 7, 2024, we delve into the significance of this global celebration that honors one of agriculture’s most versatile and valuable crops. Cotton, far beyond its well-known role in textiles, has emerged as a cornerstone in various industries, from medical supplies to animal feed and edible oil production. The inception of World Cotton Day can be traced back to the collaborative efforts of the “Cotton Four” nations—Burkina Faso, Benin, Chad, and Mali—alongside other African cotton-producing countries. Their vision centered on promoting cotton by-products and expanding market opportunities. The inaugural World Cotton Day event took place in Geneva on October 7, 2019, marking the beginning of an annual global celebration.

Observed annually on October 6, World Cerebral Palsy Day aims to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of individuals living with CP. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition affecting movement and coordination. It is caused by damage to the brain during development, often before birth. Individuals with CP may experience difficulties with muscle control, balance, and mobility.

The Theme of #UniquelyCP

The theme for World Cerebral Palsy Day 2024, “#UniquelyCP,” celebrates the diversity and individuality within the cerebral palsy community. It emphasizes that each person with CP is unique, with their own interests, passions, and strengths. The theme challenges societal stereotypes and promotes the understanding that a person’s disability does not define their entire identity.

MALABAR exercise will kick off from 8th October in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It will be  hosted by India, this year’s exercise will see the participation of Australia, Japan, and the United States of America beginning with the Harbour Phase in Visakhapatnam, followed by the sea phase. The exercise will be conducted from 8th October to 18th October.
