Scotland To Host 2026 Commonwealth Games
Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games in 2026 after Victoria, Australia, withdrew due to rising costs. Glasgow, which hosted the Games in 2014, will once again welcome athletes from around the world, but the event will be on a smaller scale this time. Victoria, Australia, decided not to host the 2026 Games because the costs were becoming too high. A later investigation found that their cost predictions had been overstated, leading to their decision to withdraw.

Cabinet gave approval for CHANDRAYAAN-4 Mission
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a new moon mission ‘Chandrayaan-4’, to develop and demonstrate the technologies to come back to Earth after successfully landing on the Moon and also collect moon samples and analyze them on Earth.

Manu Bhaker appointed brand ambassador for MoPSW
India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has appointed Manu Bhaker, the double Olympic medal winner, as a brand ambassador. Bhaker, the shooting ace who won Medals in shooting in the recent Summer Olympics held at Paris, is the daughter of a Marine Engineer. Santosh Kashyap appointed new head coach of Indian women’s football team
All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Santosh Kashyap as the new head coach of the national senior women’s team, replacing former international player Chaoba Devi at the helm of affairs. Kashyap’s first assignment will be the SAFF Women’s Championships to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from October 17 to 30. A former India international, Kashyap has almost a decade of coaching experience in the I-League, managing clubs like Mohun Bagan, Aizawl FC and Mumbai FC among others.

India is set to become the Third-largest Economy by 2030-31
India is on track to become the third largest economy by fiscal 2030-31, driven by a robust projected annual growth rate of 6.7%, the credit rating agency S&P Global said in its report called India forward Emerging Perspectives. In the post-pandemic world, India has emerged as the fastest-growing large economy, with healthy medium term prospects.
Port Blair Renamed Sri Vijaya Puram
Union Minister Amit Shah announced that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands capital, Port Blair, will be renamed ‘Sri Vijaya Puram.’ This decision is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to remove colonial-era names and celebrate India’s freedom struggle and history. The new name reflects the historical significance of the region and its connection to ancient Indian empires, especially the Chola dynasty.
