DRDO Successfully Test Long Range Glide Bomb ‘GAURAV’ From Su-30 MK-1
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on August 13, 2024 successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the long-range glide bomb (LRGB) Gaurav from a Su-30 MK-I fighter jet of the Indian Air Force. Gaurav is an air-launched 1,000 kg class glide bomb capable of hitting targets at long distances. After being launched, the glide bomb steer towards the target using a highly accurate hybrid navigation scheme,” the DRDO said in a statement.

PR Sreejesh Appointed as New Head Coach of India’s Junior Men’s Hockey Team
Hockey India (HI) has officially announced that retiring goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will be the new head coach for the Indian junior men’s hockey team. This decision follows India’s recent bronze medal victory at the 2024 Olympics. The announcement was made on August 8, 2024, shortly after India secured a bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1.
India wins CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League for the second time
Indians beat the host Nepal 23-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 15-5 in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League final. Nepal lost to India 3-2 in the finals at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu. This was the second time Nepal was facing off India in the title match at home and first since the 13th South Asian Games. India clinched Gold, Nepal secured the silver medal and Iran settled with bronze in the tournament.

Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh Assumes Role as MD at SBI
Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI), overseeing the Risk Compliance and Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG) departments. This change follows government approval last week. Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh is the new MD responsible for SBI’s risk compliance and SARG departments, succeeding Alok Choudhary. Singh’s term is set to last until June 30, 2027.
Om Prakash Mathur Sworn in as 18th Governor of Sikkim
Om Prakash Mathur was sworn in as the 18th Governor of Sikkim at Raj Bhavan, Gangtok. Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, Justice Biswanath Somadder, administered the oath of office and secrecy. The Governor and Chief Minister also participated in a plantation drive at the Raj Bhavan premises under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”

The Javelin Throw gold medallist in the Paris Olympics 2024, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem is set to be honoured with Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the country’s government. Hilal-e-Imtiaz is the second-highest civilian award given by the Government of Pakistan and Nadeem will get this award following his brilliant performance in the final of the competition.
