Malala Day, celebrated annually on July 12, commemorates the birthday of Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. This day honors her courageous fight for girls’ education and serves as a global call to action for children’s right to education worldwide.

A 28-member Indian athletics team, led by men’s javelin throw defending champion Neeraj Chopra, will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced on June 04. Chopra made history three years ago by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win a medal at the Olympics, that too a gold. This time, the Indian javelin throw ace will have Olympic debutant Kishore Jena for company in his pet event.

Naveen Chandra Jha has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of SBI General Insurance Company Limited.

He succeeds Kishore Kumar Poludasu.  Jha has been associated with the State Bank of India since 1994 and has held several key positions during his tenure. Prior to his current role at SBI General Insurance, Jha served as Deputy Managing Director of SBI.

State-owned life insurer Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has redesignated its chairman Siddhartha Mohanty as chief executive officer and managing director with effect from 30 June 2024. It is not yet known if the life insurance company would appoint a new chairperson.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on June 12, in Lucknow that the State would be exporting 40 tonnes of mangoes to Japan and Malaysia. And for the first time in its 160-year history, Lucknow’s famous Dussehri is to be exported to the United States. He was inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2024 at Awadh Shilp Gram.

The Jharkhand government is working on a plan to open eastern India’s first university for physically challenged students in Ranchi (Jharkhand) a minister said on June 11. The proposed university will offer education according to the needs of students with disabilities. Higher and technical education minister Champai Soren directed officials to prepare a proposal to open the university for physically challenged students in Ranchi.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a bioplastic park in the state to deal with the problem of environmental pollution caused by the pertoleum derivative based plastic products in the state. The bioplastic park to be developed on 1000 hectares of land will be constructed in Kumbhi village, Gola Gokarnnath tehsil, Lakhimpur Kheri district. The project will be developed with an estimated cost of Rs 2000 crore.
