On June 18th, countries around the world observe the International Day for Countering Hate Speech. This important day aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of hate speech and promote strategies to identify, address, and counter it.

The Theme: The Power of Youth for Countering Hate Speech

This year’s theme, “The Power of Youth for Countering and Addressing Hate Speech,” highlights the crucial role that young people play in fostering a more inclusive and harmonious society. The United Nations recognizes that hate speech, which targets and dehumanizes individuals based on their identity, is on the rise worldwide, spreading rapidly through social media platforms.

On June 18th, we observe Sustainable Gastronomy Day, a day dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in the world of gastronomy, or the art and study of food and cuisine. Gastronomy refers to the local food and cooking styles of a particular region. Sustainability, on the other hand, is the practice of using natural resources in a way that can be maintained without harming the environment or depleting them.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to make history this August by hosting its first-ever multinational air exercise, Tarang Shakti-2024. The exercise is slated to be held in two phases, with the initial phase commencing in the first two weeks of August in southern India, followed by the second phase in the western sector from late August to mid-September.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has won the “Risk Manager of the Year Award 2024” by Central Banking, a leading publication based in London, UK. This accolade recognizes RBI’s exemplary strides in enhancing its risk culture and awareness, affirming its pivotal role in safeguarding the stability of the Indian financial system. RBI was awarded the best risk manager for improving its risk culture and awareness. Executive Director Shri Manoranjan Mishra received the award on behalf of the RBI.

Shantaram, Lifetime Achievement Award for this year will be given to Subbiah Nallamuthu, a renowned, award-winning Wildlife filmmaker from Chennai. He filmed “Living on the Edge”, the longest running wildlife series. The award is announced by the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan at Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF 2024).

In a thrilling final at the BWF Australian Open 2024 in Sydney on Sunday (16 June), Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia emerged victorious against Naraoka Kodai of Japan, securing his second title of the season. The third seed, Lee Zii Jia, needed an hour and 18 minutes to defeat Naraoka Kodai in a hard-fought encounter. Cyril Ramaphosa has secured a second term as the President of South Africa after he was elected by the South African Parliament. Cyril Ramaphosa was re-elected after a deal was signed between his African National Congress (ANC) Party and the centre-right Democratic Alliance (DA) and other smaller parties to form a coalition government. Cyril Ramaphosa was elected as the President of South Africa for the first time on 15 February 2018.

Indian Railways has entered its name into Limca Book of Records for most people at a public service event at multiple venues. Ministry of Railways had organized an event on 26 February 2024, which was attended by over 40 lakh 19 thousand people at over two thousand venues.
