UN Russian Language Day 2024
UN Russian Language Day is observed annually on June 6th and was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. This day is dedicated to promoting the study and appreciation of the Russian language. It coincides with the birthday of Aleksandr Pushkin, one of the most prominent Russian writers and creators. This year, UN Russian Language Day will be observed on Thursday, June 6th, 2024. Everybody is encouraged to participate in the events hosted on this day to learn more about the Russian language and its rich cultural heritage.

Russian cosmonaut becomes 1st person to spend 1,000 cumulative days in space
Roscosmos state corporation cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, who currently works at the International Space Station has booked a record of 1,000 days for the first time in the world in terms of total spaceflight duration. His current trip to the ISS began Sept. 15, 2023, when he launched alongside NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara and compatriot Nikolai Chub. He also added that “I fly into space to do what I love, not to set records. I’ve dreamt of and aspired to become a cosmonaut since I was a child,”.
Boeing, NASA Set Starliner Launch for June 5
Boeing and NASA plan to launch the Starliner space capsule on June 5. The first effort to launch was called off because of technical problems. The launch was supposed to happen from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, but a problem with the computer system on the ground stopped the process.

Businesswoman Halla Tomasdottir elected Iceland’s Presidenty
Businesswoman and investor, Halla Tomasdottir has been elected as Iceland’s seventh President. She will be sworn in on 1 August 2024 and replace the incumbent president, Guana Johannesson. The President of Iceland has a term of four years. The president is elected directly by the people. Iceland is a parliamentary democracy and the post of president is largely ceremonial. The real executive power is exercised by the Prime Minister, who heads the council of ministers.
Om Birla Becomes First Lok Sabha Speaker in 20 Years to be Re-elected as MP
Om Birla, the incumbent Lok Sabha Speaker, has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Kota parliamentary seat on June 4, 2024. With a resounding margin of 41,139 votes, Birla has become the first presiding officer in 20 years to be re-elected to the Lower House of Parliament.
Kuwait’s Emir names Sheikh Sabah as new crown prince
Sheikh Meshal recently dissolved parliament for as many as four years amid the widespread political dysfunction that’s gripped Kuwait. Kuwait Emir named the small nation’s new crown prince, nearly six months after he took the throne. Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Sabah will become next in line to the throne.

King Charles III currency notes introduced in UK
The Bank of England is replacing old banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth with new ones featuring King Charles III. People can exchange their old notes for new ones until June 30, with a limit of £300.
First Human Dies From H5N2 Bird Flu in Mexico
The first known death from the H5N2 strain of bird flu was recorded by the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 24 in Mexico. This is a very bad sign for public health. The man who died was 59 years old and from the state of Mexico. He had been sick with fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, and feeling sick. He finally died from the virus on the day he was taken to the hospital in Mexico City. This case is important because it is the first proven case of the H5N2 virus in a person around the world.
Priyanka Jarkiholi : Youngest Tribal Woman to win from an unreserved seat
Priyanka Jarkiholi, running for the Congress party, beat Annasaheb Jolle, the sitting MP for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the Chikkodi district, which was a big win for her. This win is important because the BJP won all but one of the seats in the Mumbai-Karnataka area.
