National Vaccination Day is a special day to create awareness about the importance of vaccines. Vaccines help protect us from deadly diseases like polio and smallpox. On this day, people are encouraged to get vaccinated to stay safe and healthy. National Vaccination Day is celebrated every year on March 16th. This year, it falls on a Saturday. In 1988, the World Health Organization (WHO) started the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to get rid of polio from the world. In 1995, the government of India began the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme to eliminate polio from the country. Since then, March 16th has been celebrated as National Vaccination Day.

The Election Commission of India has announced the date for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on March 16, 2024. India will go to the polls from April 19th, 2024 to elect members of the 18th Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. The Indian Navy has finally got its own dedicated headquarters building. The newly constructed Nausena Bhawan located at Delhi Cantonment was formally inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on March 15th, 2024.

This marks a significant milestone for the Indian Navy.

It establishes the Navy’s first independent headquarters in Delhi.

Previously, the Navy operated from 13 different locations, making it difficult to coordinate.

B Sairam has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). NCL is the Singrauli-based flagship Subsidiary of Coal India Limited. Sairam has assumed the charge for this post.

Adani Green Energy announced the operationalisation of an additional 126 MW capacity in its 300 MW wind power project in Gujarat. This comes after the earlier operationalisation of 174 MW, marking a significant milestone for the company. Adani Wind Energy Kutchh Four Limited (AWEK4L), a subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), has successfully operationalised 126 MW of wind power in Gujarat. Together with the previously operationalised 174 MW, the project now boasts a total capacity of 300 MW.

India’s position in the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) for 2022 improved slightly, ranking 134 out of 193 countries with an HDI value of 0.644. This signifies progress in various dimensions of human development, albeit with a continued need to focus on women-led development, as highlighted by the UNDP.

The Maharashtra Cabinet has announced its decision to rename Ahmednagar district as ‘Ahilya Nagar’. The renaming is in honor of the 18th-century Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar. The proposal to rename Ahmednagar was first announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in May 2023, on the 298th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar.
