Asian Champions Trophy 2023 Hockey Schedule

Savita won gold at World Cadet Wrestling Championship 2023

Indian wrestler Savita, who entered the event as the defending champion, won the only gold medal for India in the women’s 61kg weight division in World Cadet Wrestling Championships 2023. India bagged a total of 11 medals, including 1 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze at the World Cadet Wrestling Championship 2023 in Istanbul, Turkey. India finished sixth in the men’s freestyle and fourth in men’s Greco-Roman team rankings as well. However, it was the women’s freestyle where India shone best by finishing third, only behind Japan and USA, with 118 points in the team rankings.

Poet­ Diplomat Abhay K Launches his New Book ‘Monsoon’

Indian ­poet ­diplomat Abhay Kumar (Abhay K), Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), launched his new book titled “Monsoon: A Poem of Love and Longing”, a book­length poem running across 150 fourline stanzas, at Kathika Culture Centre in Old Delhi, Delhi. The book was published by Sahitya Akademi on the occasion of its 68th anniversary (13th March 2022). The book is a poem that follows the monsoon which originates from Madagascar and travels to the Srinagar in the Himalayas and back to Madagascar. In the preface to Monsoon: A Poem of Love and Longing, the poet traces how he came to write a love poem that connects India and Madagascar. One of Abhay K’s books is a translation of Kalidasa’s Meghaduta into English. So, this preoccupation with topos – topography, so to say – remains firmly in the poet’s oeuvre.

James Webb telescope captures the gorgeous Ring Nebula

Astronomers used the James Webb Space Telescope to capture this striking new image of Messier 57, more popularly known as the Ring Nebula. The nebula in the image is actually the glowing remains of a sun-like star and at its centre is the star’s hot core, which is called a white dwarf.The Ring Nebula, a stunning cosmic jewel, represents the final stages of a star’s life and provides essential insights into stellar evolution. Its colorful and distinct appearance makes it a favorite target for amateur astronomers, while professional observatories offer detailed views of its intricate structure. As one of the most iconic planetary nebulae in the night sky, the Ring Nebula continues to fascinate both scientists and stargazers alike, enriching our understanding of the cosmos.

  Shrikant Madhav Vaidya reappointed as Chairman of IOC

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya has been re-employed to hold the position for an additional year. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for the tenure extension of Vaidya from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024. Vaidya was set to retire this year when he turns 60. This is one of the very rare occasions when a director on the board of a PSU has been given an extension of service beyond his retirement age. No chairman of a Maharatna PSU has been given an extension beyond 60 years.

Canada Starts Accepting PTE Scores For Student Direct Stream Applications

Canada has begun accepting PTE scores for Student Direct Stream applications, expanding options for students pursuing education in the country. In a significant development for international students aspiring to study in Canada, the country’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially sanctioned the use of Pearson’s PTE Academic test as an English language proficiency assessment. Earlier this year, the IRCC made a momentous decision by endorsing Pearson’s PTE Academic test as a valid measure of English language proficiency. This move acknowledges the rigorous standards and accuracy of the PTE Academic assessment, further enhancing the credibility and global recognition of this language proficiency test.

 

Uttar Pradesh Records Maximum Cases Of Cancer

Uttar Pradesh registers the highest incidence of cancer, reporting a total of 2.10 lakh new cases. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research Cancer Registry data, Uttar Pradesh, registered the highest count of cancer cases in India. During the year 2022, the state documented an astonishing 210,000 new cases, marking a significant uptick from the 201,000 cases registered in 2020. The state of Uttar Pradesh also logged the highest count of fatalities linked to cancer, with a remarkable 116,818 individuals succumbing to this formidable ailment.
