Russian Language Day 2023
Every year on June 6, the United Nations celebrates UN Russian Language Day, which was established by UNESCO in 2010. This day aligns with the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, a renowned Russian poet known as the founder of modern Russian language. The purpose of this initiative is to promote equal recognition and appreciation for all six official languages of the UN: English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and French.
The Theme for Russian Language Day 2023:
is “Exploring Russian Literature: Unlocking the Nation’s Soul.” This theme aims to highlight the significant contributions of Russian literature to world literature and recognize the literary giants who have shaped the Russian language’s cultural heritage. It encourages enthusiasts to delve into the works of renowned Russian authors, such as Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Anton Chekhov, and explore the profound emotions and philosophical ideas conveyed through their writings.
Janardan Prasad appointed as DG of Geological Survey of India
Janardan Prasad has been appointed as the new Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI). Prasad succeeds Dr. S. Raju, who has held the post since April 2022. Prasad is an MSc in Geology from Patna University and joined GSI, Gandhinagar, as a geologist in 1988. He was also posted in Shillong, Patna, Faridabad, Ranchi and Hyderabad in various capacities.

Hrithik Roshan appointed brand ambassador for Zebronics TV
An IT peripheral, audio systems, and lifestyle accessories company, Zebronics has signed actor Hrithik Roshan as the face of its range of Smart LED TVs. This is the sixth year of its collaboration with Roshan and it has been extended to its new range. According to a report by Kroll, Hrithik Roshan had a value of $71.6 million and was the tenth most-valued celebrity in the country in 2022 as part of its Celebrity Brand Valuation Report. South Korea’s An Se-young wins Thailand Open final
World No. 2 Ann Se-young of South Korea claimed her fourth title in 2023 by defeating China’s He Bingjiao in the women’s singles final of the Thailand Open badminton tournament in Bangkok. 21-year-old Ann Si-young won 21-10, 21-19. This was Young’s seventh final berth in a row. In Men’s singles, the Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn secured the Thailand Open title for the first time in his career becoming the only men’s singles player in the badminton World Tour to have won more than one tournament this year. He defeated Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong in straight sets, 21-12, 21-10 in the final.

Cyclone Biparjoy: India Issues Alerts
Cyclone Biparjoy is a low-pressure area that is currently forming over the Southeast Arabian Sea. It is expected to intensify into a depression in the next 48 hours and may reach cyclonic storm intensity in the subsequent 72 hours. The track of the cyclone is not yet clear, but it is likely to move towards the West Coast of India. Cyclone Biparjoy is the first cyclone to form in the Arabian Sea this season. The monsoon season in India typically begins in June and lasts until September. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to the West Coast of India. The heaviest rains are expected to fall in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. The strong winds could cause power outages and damage to property. People in the affected areas are advised to take precautions and stay safe.
