Telangana Formation Day 2023

Telangana Formation Day, observed annually on June 2nd since 2014, is a state public holiday in Telangana, India. It marks the commemoration of the formation of the state of Telangana. World Milk Day 2023

World Milk Day, observed every year on 1st June, was created in the year 2001 by Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to promote the consumption and benefits of milk around the world. The goal of this day is to provide us with a chance to raise awareness of and support in any manner possible initiatives related to the dairy industry. This day offers a chance to raise awareness of milk among people all over the world. The purpose of the day is to increase public knowledge of the value of milk in a balanced diet, as well as how it helps communities and livelihoods.

Ajay Yadav takes charge as MD of SECI

Ajay Yadav has assumed charge of Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). SECI is a nodal agency of the central government for auctioning renewable energy projects. SECI, a Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) established in 2011, serves as the primary implementing agency for renewable energy schemes and projects under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.

Amarendu Prakash takes charge as SAIL chairman

Amarendu Prakash has taken charge as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) from May 31. He was previously the Director (In-charge) of SAIL’s Bokaro steel plan. Prakash was previously involved in driving business transformation and financial turnaround of SAIL, which resulted in bringing back the company from a three year streak of losses, from FY16 toFY18, to being back in the black in FYI9.

GoI appoints Ashwani Kumar as MD of UCO Bank

The government has appointed Ashwani Kumar as managing director of UCO Bank in place of Soma Sankara Prasad whose terms comes to an end. Kumar is currently an executive director of Indian Bank and prior to this, he served as Chief General Manager of Punjab National Bank. The central government appoints Ashwani Kumar as managing director and chief executive officer in UCO Bank for a period of three years, the Finance Ministry said in a notification. The appointment comes into effect from the date of assumption of office on or after June 1, 2023 or until further orders.

Sanjay Varma takes charge as MRPL Managing Director

Sanjay Varma took over as the Managing Director (additional charge) of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). Varma has been on the board of MRPL as Director (Refinery) since June 2020. He has also had extensive exposure by being on the boards of ONGC-Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd and Shell-MRPL Aviation. A graduate of mechanical engineering, Varma joined MRPL in December 1993 and has played a pivotal role in the execution and operation of all three major phases of the refinery and its aromatic complex.

Latvian Parliament elects foreign minister Edgars Rinkevics as new president

Latvian lawmakers picked the country’s long-serving and popular foreign minister, a strong backer of Ukraine, as its new head of state in a tight vote. The 100-seat Saeima legislature elected Edgars Rinkevics, the country’s top diplomat since 2011, as president to serve for a four-year term. He received 52 votes, one vote more than required to win. Incumbent Egils Levits, Latvia’s head of state since 2019, didn’t seek reelection. His closest rival, businessman Uldis Pilens, got 25 votes in the third round of voting between the two remaining contenders after the third candidate, Elina Pinto, had dropped out of the contest.

Tayyip Erdogan re-elected as President of Turkey

Recep Tayyip Erdogan re-elected as President of Turkey. After failing to secure more than 50 percent of votes required for an outright win in the first round held on May 14, Erdogan received 52.14 percent of votes in the second round on Sunday, beating his rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who won 47.86 percent. The vote seals Erdogan’s place in history as he extends his 20-year rule for a further five years.

Krithivasan takes charge as CEO of TCS

Krithivasan took charge as the chief executive officer (CEO) for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The stepping down of erstwhile chief, Rajesh Gopinathan, isn’t expected to pose any uncertainty for the company, for which Krithivasan is the fifth CEO in its 55-year history. Krithivasan, who has been at TCS for over 34 years now, will be the oldest CEO appointment so far. His predecessor, Gopinathan, was the youngest appointee, taking up the role in 2017, aged 46. TCS is India’s largest information technology (IT) services firm by market capitalization.
