Maharashtra Day is celebrated on May 1st every year to commemorate the creation of the state of Maharashtra after the Bombay Reorganization Act of 1960 was enacted. The law came into effect on May 1st, 1960, and thus this day is significant in the history of the state. Maharashtra Day is a recognized state holiday that leads to the closure of significant government institutions, banks, schools and colleges. To commemorate the culture and principles of their state’s inception, individuals often don traditional clothing.

Debadatta Chand named as new Managing Director of Bank of Baroda
Debadatta Chand has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of Bank of Baroda (BOB), according to a government announcement made on April 29. Chand is currently serving as the Executive Director of the bank. He will assume the position of MD for a term of three years, effective from July 1, 2023, or until further notice. This appointment follows the term extension of the previous MD, Sanjiv Chadha, which ended on January 19, 2021, and was extended by the government for an additional five months until June 30, 2021.
Rajneesh Karnatak Named As New MD and Chairman Of Bank Of India
The Indian government has selected Rajneesh Karnatak as the Managing Director (MD) of the Bank of India (BOI). Karnatak currently serves as the Executive Director of the Union Bank of India. As per the announcement, he will take up the role of MD & CEO of Bank of India for a period of three years, starting from the date he assumes office or until further instructions.
ITC Overtakes Infosys to become India’s Sixth Most Valuable Company
ITC, one of India’s largest FMCG conglomerates, has surpassed IT major Infosys to become the country’s sixth most valuable company on the stock exchanges. With a market capitalization of Rs 5.11 lakh crore, ITC overtook Infosys on Monday after overtaking HDFC Ltd on Friday. This achievement comes after ITC’s share price rose 59% over the past year and 24% so far in 2023, making it the best performer in the benchmark Nifty50. Meanwhile, Infosys shares have fallen by 20% in 2023, wiping off Rs 1.80 lakh crore of investors’ fortunes, following its March quarter earnings below street estimates.
Indian Army Inducts First Women Officers into Regiment of Artillery
In a historic first, the Indian Army has inducted five women officers into its Regiment of Artillery. Lt Mehak Saini, Lt Sakshi Dubey, Lt Aditi Yadav, Lt Pious Mudgil, and Lt Akanksha have joined the Army’s premier artillery units after successfully completing their training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. Military sources have reported that three of the five women officers have been posted to frontline formations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, while the other two have been posted to “challenging locations” near the frontier with Pakistan. The Regiment of Artillery is a major combat support arm, and it has around 280 units that handle various gun systems, including Bofors howitzers, Dhanush, M-777 howitzers, and K-9 Vajra self-propelled guns.
Sergio Pérez wins Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship, in Baku. Sergio Pérez took advantage of a fortunately timed safety car to beat his teammate Max Verstappen to the victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Verstappen started second behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc but swept past him on the long start-finish straight at the end of lap 3, the first lap on which drivers were allowed to use the DRS overtake assist system on the rear wing. Fernando Alonso finished in fourth place, showing strong pace for Aston Martin after issues in qualifying.
Santiago Pena wins Paraguay vote, keeps rightwing party in power

Siddhartha Mohanty appointed as Chairman of LIC Until June 2024
The government announced the appointment of Siddhartha Mohanty as the Chairperson of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) until June 29, 2024. Following this, he will serve as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer until June 7, 2025, as stated by LIC in a release. Mohanty, who is currently the Managing Director, had been serving as the interim Chairperson of the state-run life insurance company since March 14, replacing M R Kumar, whose term ended on March 13, 2023.
