Fifth Kalvari Class Submarine “Vagir” to be Commissioned into Indian Navy

Indian Navy is set to commission the fifth Kalvari class submarine Vagir on 23 Jan 2023. The Chief of the Naval Staff Adm R Hari Kumar will be the Chief Guest for the ceremony. These submarines are being built in India by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France. Four of the Kalvari class of submarines have already been commissioned into the Indian Navy.

Ex-SC judge AK Sikri appointed Administrator of Shooting World Cup 2023

Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, a retired judge from the Supreme Court, has been appointed by the Delhi High Court as Administrator to manage the use of funds for the next ISSF Shooting World Cup in 2023. The ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) will take place in March in Bhopal.

Chris Hipkins will replace Jacinda Ardern as prime minister of New Zealand

New Zealand’s former COVID-19 response minister, Chris Hipkins will replace Jacinda Ardern as prime minister. The 44-year-old senior politician must be formally backed by Labour members of parliament to take over as the country’s 41st prime minister, following Ardern’s shock resignation. As leader of the governing party, Hipkins will also become prime minister when Ardern steps down.

Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023

The first edition of Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023 has been launched by International Cricket Council (ICC) and it is scheduled from 14th January to 29th January 2023. The first match of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023 was played between Australia Women U19 and Bangladesh Women U19 at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. A total of 16 teams are participating in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023.

India’s deepest Metro station coming up at Pune Civil Court

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has announced that the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will inspect a stretch of the Pune Metro in February, and clearances are expected in March. This line features India’s deepest underground station, which will be ready in a few months at the Civil Court and measures 33.1 metres (108.59 feet) in depth.

1st Edition of Indo-Egypt Joint Training Exercise Cyclone – I begins

The first joint exercise between the special forces of the Indian and the Egyptian Army, ‘Exercise Cyclone – I‘ started on 14 January at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, said the Ministry of Defence. The exercise aims to bolster defence co-operation between the two countries and focus on sharing professional skills and interoperability of special forces in desert terrain while undertaking counter terrorism, reconnaissance, raids and other special operations.

Vedanta’s Cairn Oil & Gas Appointed Nick Walker as Chief Executive Officer

Nick Walker has been announced as the Chief Executive Officer of Cairn Oil & Gas, A unit of Vedanta Ltd. The appointment is effective from 5th January 2023. Nick Walker has previously served as the President and CEO at Lundin Energy, a large European independent E&P company. He has also worked with BP, Talisman Energy, and Africa Oil and has an international experience of 30 years in technical, commercial, and executive leadership roles.
