On 18th June, 2026 world will observe the Autistic Pride Day 2026 and this day celebrates the neurodiversity and promote the acceptance, dignity and inclusion of the autistic individuals. The observance of the day challenges outdated perceptions of the autism by emphasizing that autism is not the disease to be cured but a natural variation of human neurology. Via awareness campaign, educational initiatives and community-led events, Autistic Pride Day encourages the society to recognize the talents, perspectives and contributions of autistic people.

The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was observed all around the world on 17th June 2026 and it highlights the urgent need to address the land degradation, desertification and drought-related challenges. This annual observance serves as a the reminder that healthy land is essential for the food security, biodiversity, climate resilience and sustainable development.

The theme for 2026 for the day is the “Rangelands: Recognize. Respect. Restore.”

In June 2026, President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Sword of Honour and President’s Gold Medal to Lt Vishal Kumar at the Passing Out Parade of the 158th course of the Indian Military Academy. He topped the Order of Merit and was named the best all-round cadet. Academy Under Officer Prince Raj won the Silver Medal, while Senior Under Officer Tejas Bhatt secured the Bronze. Lt Vishal Kumar, from Patna, excelled in academics, training, leadership, and overall performance.

“APPOINTMENTS”

Sundarraj P, a 2003-batch IPS officer, was appointed as Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He previously served in Chhattisgarh, notably in Bastar Range, where he led anti-Naxal operations for over a decade. The NIA, established under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, is India’s premier agency for investigating terrorism and offences impacting national security.

“NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL NEWS”

The mosquito-borne Usutu virus (USUV), a flavivirus primarily affecting wild birds, was detected in blackbirds in Scotland (Isle of Arran) for the first time in summer 2025, with public confirmation on April 1, 2026. Prompted by local reports of neurological symptoms and bird deaths, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) confirmed on June 15, 2026 that  the virus was using reverse transcription-PCR.
