Praggnanandhaa Becomes First Indian to Win Norway Chess 2026 Title

India’s young chess prodigy Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian ever to win the prestigious Norway Chess tournament. The 20 year old Chennai born player produced the brilliant performance in the final round and defeated the Germany’s Vincent Keymer  to claim the prestigious title. His victory is landmark achievement as even the legendary players like Viswanathan Anand and reigning World Champion D Gukesh had never won the tournament.

Maj Gen Rachel Thomas assumed charge as the Additional Director General (ADG), Military Nursing Service (MNS), and succeeding Maj Gen Lissamma PV, who retired after nearly four decades of service. An alumna of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Maj Gen Rachel Thomas was commissioned into the Military Nursing Service on 1 June 1988 and has served in the armed forces medical system for nearly 38 years.

Surha Tal as India’s 100th Ramsar site

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the designation of Uttar Pradesh’s Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary (Surha Tal) in Ballia as India’s 100th Ramsar site on June 5, 2026. This biologically rich wetland serves as a critical habitat for numerous resident and migratory bird species. In a social media statement, the Prime Minister highlighted that this milestone reflects India’s dedication to environmental and wetland conservation. He emphasized that rejuvenation initiatives have succeeded by incorporating community involvement, innovation, and scientific awareness.
