World Day Against Child Labour 2026

The World Day Against Child Labour is observed worldwide every year on 12th of June and to raise the awareness about the child exploitation and promote efforts to eliminate child labor worldwide. Despite the significant progress over the period of years and nearly 138 million children continue to be engaged in the child labour worldwide and which also including 54 million in hazardous work. The Theme for the 2026 is “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults”

India Retains No. 1 Spot in ICC ODI Rankings

Following the ICC’s annual update on June 11, 2026, India retained the No. 1 spot in the Men’s ODI Team Rankings with 118 points, though its lead over second-placed New Zealand (113 points) narrowed to five. Australia remained third with 109 points. Notably, South Africa (102 points) climbed to fourth, displacing Pakistan (98 points). India also leads the T20I rankings. The ICC’s ranking system applies a 100 percent weightage to matches played since May 2025 and a 50 percent weightage to the preceding two years, impacting both ODI and T20I ratings.

Pashinyan Claims Victory in Armenia Election

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claimed victory in a general election held on 7 June 2026. Preliminary results released on 8 June 2026 placed his governing Civil Contract party in first place with 49.82% of the vote. Armenia is a parliamentary republic in the South Caucasus region. The National Assembly is the unicameral legislature of Armenia and has 107 seats under the current constitutional framework.

India Validates First Indigenous HPV Test

India has validated Truenat HR-HPV-Plus, its first indigenous point-of-care molecular test for cervical cancer screening on June 10, 2026, developed by Goa-based Molbio Diagnostics. Published in the International Journal of Cancer using 1159 samples, the study involved AIIMS New Delhi, ICMR, and WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Supported by DBT-BIRAC, the assay detects eight high-risk HPV types causing 95 percent of cervical cancers. India records 1,27,000 cases and 80,000 cervical cancer deaths annually.
Canada Plans Social Media Ban for Under-16 Users

Canada’s federal government announced plans on 8 June 2026 to introduce legislation that includes a ban on social media use for children under 16 years of age. The proposal is part of a wider online harms bill that is expected to be tabled in the House of Commons on 10 June 2026. The planned bill is linked to the federal online harms framework in Canada. The legislation is expected to set age-based restrictions for social media platforms and to create legal duties for online services operating in the country. Canadian Heritage Minister Marc Miller stated in April 2026 that the federal government was considering a social media ban for minors.
Yoga for Healthy Ageing Theme Announced for IDY 2026

The Ministry of Ayush has announced “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” as the theme for the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, which will be observed on 21 June 2026. The main IDY celebration for 2026 will be held in Kolkata, and the ministry has linked the theme with year-round yoga practice through the “Yoga 365” initiative.
