Indian Air Force Day 2025 is celebrated on October 8, marking the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1932. Each year, the day serves to honor the courage and commitment of IAF personnel while showcasing India’s growing air power through air shows, parades, and exhibitions across air bases nationwide. The 2025 celebrations emphasize the IAF’s focus on modernization and operational readiness, blending heritage with cutting-edge technological capabilities. The Indian Air Force was officially established on October 8, 1932, under British rule with a modest fleet of three aircraft and four officers.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2025 has been awarded to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis for their groundbreaking discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit. Their work proved that quantum phenomena can occur even in large-scale systems, bridging the gap between the quantum and classical worlds and paving the way for advanced technologies like quantum computing, cryptography, and sensors.

Indian peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) were recently honoured for their outstanding service in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan. At a formal medal parade ceremony, the Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNISFA, Maj Gen Robert Yaw Affram, praised the dedication and professionalism of the Indian Battalion (INDBATT). This recognition reaffirms India’s status as a global leader in peacekeeping operations, reflecting its unwavering commitment to maintaining international peace and stability.

On 6 October 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), along with the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) and the Tri-Services, released Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) version 1.0 at a national workshop in New Delhi. This marks a significant leap towards interoperable, indigenous, and future-ready Software Defined Radios (SDRs) for India’s military. IRSA 1.0 is the country’s first standardized software architecture for SDRs, offering a common framework for radio communication across all defence services.

Exercise KONKAN-2025, a bilateral naval exercise between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy, began off India’s western coast, reaffirming the nations’ commitment to secure and open seas under the India-UK Vision 2035. The exercise, conducted in two phases (5–12 October 2025), includes professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, sports, cultural events, and advanced maritime drills in anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare.

In a first-of-its-kind appointment, Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has been named the official ambassador for the English Premier League (EPL) in India. The move marks a major step in the EPL’s strategy to expand its presence in the Indian subcontinent by leveraging local sports icons with pan-India appeal.

In a historic step for biodiversity conservation, India will unveil its first-ever Red List of Endangered Species at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025, to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from October 9–15, 2025. The Red List, tailored for India’s unique biodiversity, will highlight species at risk and strengthen national conservation priorities. India’s delegation to the Congress will be led by Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, and External Affairs.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Navi Mumbai International Airport will be named after late Loknete D. B. Patil, with approval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government has also proposed renaming Pune Airport after Jagadguru Sant Tukaram and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Airport after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with approvals expected soon under the new central naming policy.
