On June 14, 2024, the world will unite to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, an annual event that recognizes the incredible contributions of voluntary blood donors. This year’s theme, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!” marks a significant milestone, highlighting two decades of gratitude and appreciation for those who have generously given the gift of life.

Shruti Vora, astride Magnanimous, has become the first Indian rider to win a three-star Grand Prix event- a historic achievement for the Indian equestrian. Shruti scored 67.761 points in the CDI-3 event in Lipica, Slovenia from June 7-9. The Indian finished ahead of Moldova’s Tatiana Antonenco (Aachen), who scored 66.522. Austria’s Juliane Jerich (Quarter Girl) completed the top 3 with a score of 66.087.

Ariarne Titmus broke the world record in the women’s 200-meter freestyle on June 12 at Brisbane’s Chandler Aquatic Center, which was part of Australia’s Olympic swimming tryouts. She clocked an impressive time of 1 minute, 52.23 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 1:52.85 set by Mollie O’Callaghan at last year’s world championships. Because of this, Titmus holds the world record in both the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events.

The launch of ‘Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 13 (Yard 81)’, the fifth Barge of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, built by MSME Shipyard. M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam for Indian Navy, was undertaken on 10 Jun 24 at M/s Vinayaga Marine Petro Ltd, Mira Bhayandar, Maharashtra (launch site of M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd). Former IAS officer P K Mishra has been re-appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr P.K. Mishra, IAS (Retired) as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister with effect from June 10, 2024. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders whichever is earlier.

The Centre on June 13 reappointed former IPS officer Ajit Doval as the National Security Adviser (NSA). His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders. Ajit Doval (born on 20 January 1945), is a former spymaster and the current National Security Advisor (NSA) of India. He was Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief and a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Kerala cadre.

On June 13, 2024, Pema Khandu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took the oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive time. The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall in Itanagar, was graced by the presence of prominent leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president and Union Minister JP Nadda, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

National Geographic’s documentary, Billy and Molly, An Otter Love Story, will kick off the screenings at the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in Mumbai. MIFF is scheduled to be held from 15th June 2024 to 21st June 2024 in Mumbai. The opening film will be screened simultaneously in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune on 15th June. The film will also be screened during the Red Carpet event in Delhi on 17th June, Chennai on 18th June, Kolkata on 19th June, and Pune on 20th June.
