Indian Navy Gets its First Woman Helicopter Pilot
Sub Lieutenant Anamika B. Rajeev became the Indian Navy’s first woman helicopter pilot during a passing out parade held in the naval air station INS Rajali at Arakkonam in Ranipet district. A total of 21 officers were awarded the prestigious ‘Golden Wings’ by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. A passing out parade was held on June 7 to mark the graduation of the 102nd Helicopter Conversion Course.

French Open: Iga Świątek wins Women’s Singles Title
Iga Swiatek won her third consecutive French Open championship and fourth in five years by defeating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final at Roland Garris. InderPal Singh Bindra Appointed as CCI Secretary
Indian Revenue Service officer InderPal Singh Bindra will soon take charge as the Secretary of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). Bindra will replace IRS officer Anupama Anand, who has resigned within eight months of joining the regulator. Bindra’s tenure at the CCI is slated for a period of three years from the date he assumes office. The CCI is tasked with monitoring and curbing unfair business practices while promoting an environment of fair competition.

Priyanka Jarkiholi Youngest Tribal Woman to Win in Lok Sabha
Congress nominee and Minister Satish Jarkiholi’s daughter Priyanka Jarkiholi has won from Chikkodi, defeating incumbent MP and BJP leader Annasaheb Jolle. Priyanka Jarkiholi from Chikkodi became the youngest tribal woman to enter Parliament from an unreserved seat in Karnataka since Independence. In fact, the BJP has won all the seats in Mumbai Karnataka, except Chikkodi.
French President Dissolves Parliament After EU Election Defeat
In response to his party’s heavy loss in the European Parliamentary elections, French President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved the National Assembly and called for snap parliamentary elections. The far-right Rassemblement National (RN) secured a significant victory, winning 31.5% of the vote compared to Macron’s Renaissance Party’s 15.2%. Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly in an hour-long national address, citing the need to restore trust in the French electoral process.
Aquaculture Overtakes Wild Fisheries for First Time
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations released The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2024, its flagship report providing a comprehensive analysis of the global and regional status and trends in fisheries and aquaculture. It shows, for the first time in 2022, that aquaculture production exceeded fisheries.
