Earth’s Rotation Day 2024

Every year, Earth’s Rotation Day is celebrated on January 8, and this year, the special day falls on a Monday. It’s a day dedicated to recognizing the pivotal discovery of Earth’s rotation on its axis. The concept of Earth’s rotation dates back to ancient Greece in 470 BC. However, it wasn’t until 1851 that French physicist Léon Foucault provided concrete proof with his famous pendulum experiment.

African National Congress Foundation Day 2024

The African National Congress (ANC), a pivotal force in South Africa’s history, celebrates its Foundation Day on January 8, commemorating its establishment in 1912. This day marks the ANC’s enduring commitment to uniting African people and defending their rights and freedoms. The ANC, initially founded as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) in Bloemfontein, symbolizes a landmark event in Africa’s struggle against centuries of exploitation and humiliation. Formed in a time of rapid change, with the discovery of diamonds and gold in South Africa, the SANNC aimed to counter oppressive laws and taxes designed to dispossess Africans of their land.

Raghuram Iyer appointed as CEO of Indian Olympic Association

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has welcomed a seasoned professional, Raghuram Iyer, as its new CEO, marking a significant development after a meticulous selection process conducted by the nomination committee. The appointment, long-awaited and in response to reminders from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), brings a wealth of experience to the forefront.

P Santhosh appoints as MD & CEO of NARCL

Chief General Manager of Canara Bank, P Santhosh has been appointed as the Managing Director of National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL). He succeeds Natarajan Sundar, who resigned from the post. Canara Bank is the sponsor bank of NARCL with over a 10 percent stake. Public sector banks are major shareholders of NARCL. A total of 10 Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have transferred Non-Performing Assets of over Rs 11,617 crore to NARCL between January and November last year. Sundar was with State Bank of India before taking charge at NARCL. During his stint at SBI, Sundar held the position of Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and was working as Chief Credit Officer for the Bank.

Golden Globes Awards 2024

The 81st Golden Globe Awards are set to be presented in a lavish event at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, USA. This year’s ceremony is anticipated to be highlighted by Greta Gerwig’s widely popular film Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s hit movie Oppenheimer. Barbie is at the forefront with nine nominations, including Best Picture Musical or Comedy, and acting nods for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, along with three nominations for its original songs. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer has received eight nominations, featuring Best Picture Drama and nominations for actors Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt. In terms of television, Succession leads with nine nominations, including nods for its cast members Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, and Kieran Culkin.

Ayodhya to host International Kite Festival ahead of Ram Temple consecration
