Statistics Day 2026

On 29th June, 2026 India celebrates the 20th Statistics Day and with this it marks two decades of recognising the vital role of the statistics in national development. It is organized by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and this day commemorates the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis who is widely regarded as the father of modern statistics in India. The 2026 theme is the “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data,” and showcases the growing importance of using government-generated data to improve policymaking, governance, and public service delivery.

ISRO Successfully Conducts 175-Tonne Semicryogenic Engine Hot Test, Strengthening India’s Future Space Missions

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has performed the successful hot test of the Semi-Cryogenic Engine Power Head Test Article (PHTA) at a thrust level of 175 Tonne at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri , Tamil Nadu on 24th June 2026. The test marks the crucial milestone in the development of SE2000 cryogenic engine. This is the 8th test in a series of hot tests using the PHTA.

Seychelles Confers Guardian of the Blue Horizon Award

On 28 June 2026, Seychelles conferred the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit to the island nation. The award is a special Presidential Distinction and is described as Seychelles’ highest environmental honour for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

DMRC Wins UITP Achievement Award for Operational Excellence

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) received the UITP Achievement Award for Operational Excellence on 23 June 2026 in Brussels. UITP, or the International Association of Public Transport, presented the award to DMRC for its AI-powered integrated mobility platform, the Sarthi App. DMRC is the statutory body that operates the Delhi Metro network in the National Capital Region. The organisation manages metro rail services, station operations, fare collection, and passenger facilities across its system.

India Launches World’s First Nuclear Process Heat-Based Hydrogen Production Facility

India achieved the milestone as it commissioned the world’s first hydrogen production facility, which is based on the nuclear process heat. It was inaugurated by the Department of Atomic Energy Secretary Ajit Kumar Mohanty at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam. This facility uses the indigenous Copper-Chlorine (Cu-Cl) Thermochemical Cycle to produce hydrogen by using the heat from a nuclear reactor.

India Approves First Offshore Airport in Maharashtra

India’s first offshore airport has been approved for preparation of a Detailed Project Report in Maharashtra. The proposed site is near Kore beach in Palghar district, and the project is planned as the third international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. A pre-feasibility report has classified the project as feasible, and the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation is overseeing the proposal.
