United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2026

The United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed every year on 26 June to reaffirm the global commitment to eliminating torture and supporting victims worldwide. The day highlights the importance of protecting human dignity, promoting justice, and ensuring rehabilitation for survivors of torture. Torture is prohibited under international law and is recognized as one of the gravest violations of human rights. Despite international treaties and legal protections, torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment continue to occur in many parts of the world.

Hemis Festival 2026

The Hemis Festival is one of the most vibrant and significant Buddhist festivals celebrated in Ladakh. Held annually at the famous Hemis Monastery in the Leh district, the festival commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche or the Second Buddha. India Clinches Women’s 4×100m Relay Gold at Asian Relays Championships 2026

India won the gold medal in the women’s 4×100m relay at the Asian Relays Championships 2026 in Shaoxing, China, with Srabani Nanda, SS Sneha, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Tamanna clocking a season-best 43.85 seconds. The Indian mixed 4×400m relay team secured the silver medal, with Theerthesh Shetty, Poovamma MR, Bharath Sridhar, and Neeru Pathak finishing in 3:17.06 seconds.

Mahesh Dixit Appointed as New Intelligence Bureau Director

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). A 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Dixit will assume charge on 30 June, succeeding Tapan Kumar Deka. The appointment is for a two-year tenure from the date he assumes office or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The approval includes an extension in service under the relevant provisions of the All India Services rules.

Skydo Secures First International Payment Licence in Canada

Skydo, a Bengaluru-based fintech company, has received an international payment licence in Canada, marking its first international regulatory approval outside India. The licence enables Skydo to expand its cross-border payment services and strengthen its global presence in international markets. Skydo already has approval to operate from GIFT City, India’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), further enhancing its international financial operations.
