The global campaign for the World Refugee Day 2026 is centered around the message called “Until Everyone is Safe”

Jainendra K Jain Wins Wolf Prize in Physics, Becomes First Indian-Origin Laureate
Indian origin theoretical physicist Jainendra K. Jain become the first person of Indian origin to receive the prestigious Wolf Prize in the field of Physics. This award recognizes his groundbreaking discovery of the composite fermions, it is a revolutionary concept that transformed scientists understanding of the fractional quantum Hall effect and it opened a new directions in the quantum physics research. The Wolf prize often been considered as the precursor to the Nobel Prize as many recipients receiving the Nobel distinction in the future.

Jainendra K Jain Wins Wolf Prize in Physics, Becomes First Indian-Origin Laureate
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Hitesh Joshi as Chairman and Managing Director of General Insurance Corporation of India on June 12, 2026. He had been serving as acting CMD since October 2025 after the retirement of N. Ramaswamy. With extensive experience in reinsurance, risk management, and corporate governance, Joshi’s appointment ensures leadership continuity at India’s national reinsurer, which plays a key role in stabilising the insurance sector.

NHAI Launches Rajasthan’s First Barrier-Free Tolling System on NH-48
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully introduced the first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system in the state of Rajasthan. This barrier less toll collection system at Daulatpura Toll Plaza launched on the busy Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48. Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) is the advanced electronic toll collection system that allows vehicles to cross the toll points without stopping or slowing down significantly.
UAE sets 15 as the minimum age for social media use
The United Arab Emirates has set a minimum age of 15 for social media use, banning younger children from creating or operating accounts. Platforms must adopt advanced verification methods like AI-based age checks and digital identity systems. Teens aged 15–16 can access platforms with safeguards such as privacy controls and parental supervision. This move aims to enhance child safety, reduce exposure to harmful content, and address concerns around mental health, screen time, and data privacy in the digital space.
Ladakh bans single-use plastics with penalties
On 19 June 2026, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh ordered a ban on identified single-use plastic items and littering across the Union Territory of Ladakh. The order applies to individuals, commercial establishments, hotels, and eateries, and it includes environmental penalties and inspection powers for enforcement. Single-use plastics are plastic products designed for one-time use before disposal. Common examples include plastic cutlery, cups, plates, straws, trays, wrapping films, plastic stirrers, plastic flags, and plastic banners below the prescribed thickness. Thermocol decorations are also covered under the prohibited items list in Ladakh.
