National Science Day 2026: Honouring the Raman Effect and Theme For 2026
India celebrates National Science Day 2026 to honour the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman in 1928. This day observed on 28th February every year. This historic scientific breakthrough earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 which is making him the first Asian Nobel laureate in science. The 2026 theme, “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” focuses on the powerful role of women scientists in shaping a developed India through innovation, research, and leadership in STEM fields.

Historic Glory! Jammu & Kashmir Win Ranji Trophy in Maiden Final After 67 Years
Jammu and Kashmir etched their name in history by winning the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 in their maiden final appearance. At the KSCA Cricket Stadium in Hubballi, J&K defeated eight-time champions Karnataka by securing a massive first-innings lead of 291 runs. Led by captain Paras Dogra, the team celebrated in style as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah watched from the stands. With this triumph, Jammu and Kashmir became only the 10th team in 92 years to win the Ranji Trophy in their debut final.

Exercise Vayu Shakti 2026: Indian Air Force Unleashes Firepower Near Pakistan Border
The Indian Air Force (IAF) displayed its combat power during Exercise Vayu Shakti 2026 at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in western Rajasthan. Exercise was Conducted in the Thar desert near the India–Pakistan border, the large scale day to night exercise was witnessed by President Droupadi Murmu.
DRDO Successfully Tests VSHORADS Missile: DRDO’s Indigenous Air Defense System Ready for Induction
India has successfully conducted three consecutive flight trials of the indigenous VSHORADS (Very Short Range Air Defence System) missile system off the coast of Odisha. This trials were carried out from Chandipur on February 27 2026 and demonstrated the system’s ability to intercept high speed aerial threats across varying ranges and altitudes. This systems were Developed by DRDO and the missile system is now poised for induction into the Indian armed forces.

Wankhede Honours Ravi Shastri Names Stand After Former India Captain
The iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will soon have a stand named after former India captain Ravi Shastri. This decision was approved by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) during its Apex Council meeting. Along with the Ravi Shastri Wankhede Stadium stand other three gates of the stadium will also be named after Mumbai cricket legends like Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar and Diana Edulji. The move recognizes their immense contribution to Mumbai and Indian cricket history.

Deepak Gupta has officially assumed the charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited. He succeeding Sandeep Kumar Gupta who superannuated on February 28. With a tenure extending until February 28, 2029, Gupta steps into leadership at a crucial time for India’s energy sector. Pakyong Airport to Be Renamed After Freedom Fighter Trilochan Pokhrel
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced that Pakyong Airport which is the only airport in the Himalayan state and will be renamed after freedom fighter Trilochan Pokhrel. The announcement was made on 27 February 2026 during the 31st Foundation Day celebration of the Akhil Sikkim Khas Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh at Rangpo. The move recognises the contribution of Trilochan Pokhrel, popularly known as “Gandhi Pokhrel,” in India’s freedom struggle.
Micron Opens World’s Largest Semiconductor Clean Room in Gujarat
India achieved a landmark milestone in its semiconductor mission as Micron Technology began operations at its Sanand ATMP facility in Gujarat. The plant houses a 500,000 sq ft raised floor clean room, the largest of its kind globally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the facility, marking India’s first advanced memory Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) site. The company also shipped its first DRAM module to Dell Technologies, signalling India’s entry into high-end semiconductor assembly.
