Vijay Diwas 2025: India and Bangladesh Mark 54 Years of Historic Victory in the 1971 War
Vijay Diwas, also known as Victory Day or Bijoy Dibos, is observed every year on 16 December across India and Bangladesh. In 2025, the day marks the 54th anniversary of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, a conflict that reshaped the geopolitical landscape of South Asia and led to the creation of Bangladesh. The day commemorates not only a decisive military triumph but also pays tribute to the martyrs from both nations who laid down their lives during the war.

Indian Navy to Commission INAS 335 (Ospreys) In Goa
The Indian Navy is scheduled to commission INAS 335 (Ospreys), its second squadron of MH-60R multi-role helicopters, on 17 December 2025 at INS Hansa, Goa. The ceremony will be led by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi in attendance. This commissioning thus forms a very important milestone in the Navy’s efforts to continue the process of modernizing its aviation arm and improve operational readiness.

Following a series of exceptional performances against India in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). Indian opener Shafali Verma has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for November. Which is marking her first ever Player of the Month honour. The recognition crowns a remarkable turnaround in her World Cup journey, as she had entered the squad as a late replacement for injured Pratika Rawal but went on to play a decisive role in India’s historic Women’s Cricket World Cup triumph.

Ravi Ranjan Takes Charge As SBI New Managing Director (MD)
Government of India has appointed Ravi Ranjan as the new Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI). The appointment was announced on 15 December 2025, and Ranjan has officially assumed charge following the government’s notification. As State Bank Of India is India’s largest public sector bank, leadership changes at SBI are closely watched due to their impact on the country’s financial stability, credit growth, and banking reforms.
Ex-Justice Secretary Raj Kumar Goyal Appointed Chief Information Commissioner
For the country’s transparency and accountability regime, former Secretary in the Ministry of Law and Justice Raj Kumar Goyal took oath as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Central Information Commission (CIC) in a ceremony held on December 15th, 2025. While administering the oath, President Droupadi Murmu initiated a new beginning in one of the country’s most critical institutions under the Right to Information Act, 2005, with a new head in charge.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Launches AI-Powered Tool for Maharashtra Police
In a historic move towards using technology in law enforcement, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced the state-wide implementation of an AI-based crime-solving solution named MahaCrimeOS AI for the state police. This solution is set to go live at all 1,100 police stations in the state, making it a leader among other states that implement AI-based law enforcement. Launched on 12th December 2025, this is a result of a deep collaboration between Microsoft, the state of Maharashtra, and their AI-based special law enforcement agency for the state of Maharashtra named MARVEL.
