Every year on September 30, the world observes International Translation Day to honour the invaluable contributions of translators, interpreters, and language professionals. These unsung champions of communication make it possible to bridge linguistic divides, promote cross-cultural dialogue, and foster global cooperation. The 2025 celebration highlighted the vital role of translation in bringing out the richness of human diversity.

In a stunning showcase of skill and resilience, India’s Sheetal Devi secured her maiden gold medal in the Women’s Compound Open category at the 2025 World Para Archery Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea. The 18-year-old para archer defeated Türkiye’s Oznur Cure Girdi, a three-time world champion and Paralympic gold medalist, with a score of 146–143 in a tense final that highlighted her growing stature on the global stage.

The 12th World Para Athletics Championship 2025 began on September 27, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN), New Delhi. The nine-day mega event, running till October 5, 2025, brings together more than 1,000 para-athletes from over 100 countries. India is hosting the championship for the first time, with a strong contingent of 70+ athletes. This global event is a significant moment for India’s para sports, coming just after the successful Paris Paralympics 2024, where Indian athletes made history with their medal haul.

Diljit Dosanjh, acclaimed actor and singer, has earned a prestigious International Emmy Award nomination for Best Actor in 2025 for his role in Imtiaz Ali’s biopic “Amar Singh Chamkila”. The film, a Netflix original, also clinched a nomination in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category, making it India’s sole entry at this year’s awards. The announcement was made by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in New York ahead of the 53rd International Emmy Awards, scheduled to be held on November 24, 2025.

In a significant bureaucratic move, Rajeev Verma, an IAS officer of the 1992 batch (AGMUT cadre), has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Delhi, effective 1 October 2025. He will succeed Dharmendra, who is set to retire on 30 September. The decision, made by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, involves transferring Verma from his current post in Chandigarh to Delhi.

Gaurav Banerjee will continue as Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI)—officially operating under Culver Max Entertainment—until August 2029. This five-year extension, approved at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August 2025, signals leadership stability at one of India’s most prominent media and entertainment firms. Banerjee was initially appointed as Additional Director in August 2024, following the departure of long-serving CEO NP Singh.

Venkataramani re-appointed as Attorney General of India for a two-year term, effective from October 1, 2025, after completing his current three-year tenure on September 30. He succeeded K.K. Venugopal as the AG in September 2022 and has decades of experience practicing constitutional law, human rights, indirect taxes, civil and criminal law, and more.

India has added two more wetlands in Bihar – Gokul Jalashay (Buxar) and Udaipur Jheel (West Champaran) – to the Ramsar list, bringing the country’s total to 93 sites and maintaining its top position in Asia. Gokul Jalashay, an oxbow lake on the southern edge of the Ganga, supports over 50 bird species and provides fishing, farming, and irrigation benefits to nearby communities, while also acting as a flood buffer.
