The Losar Festival 2026 has begun from 18 to 20 February in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh, marking the start of the Fire Horse Year. The Tibetan exile community is celebrating its traditional New Year with prayers, rituals, and cultural activities. Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has arrived in McLeod Ganj, adding to the festive spirit. Magnus Carlsen Wins Inaugural FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship
Magnus Carlsen won the 2026 FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship, defeating Fabiano Caruana in the final held at Weissenhaus from 13–15 February, marking the first official Freestyle Chess World Championship recognised by FIDE. Carlsen secured the title with a 2.5–1.5 scoreline in the four-game final, sealing victory with a composed draw in the fourth game after gaining a crucial edge earlier in the match.

Denmark Tops, Afghanistan Last! Where Do India and US Rank in Women, Peace and Security Index 2025/26?
The Women, Peace and Security Index 2025/26 has once again highlighted the global condition of women’s rights and safety. According to the latest report, nearly 676 million women were exposed to conflict in the past year a 74% rise since 2010. The index ranks 181 countries based on women’s inclusion, justice, and security. While Denmark retains the top position, Afghanistan ranks at the bottom in the Index List.
- In the Women, Peace and Security Index 2025/26, India ranks 131st with a score of 0.607.
- The United States ranks 31st, moving up six places from last year.

O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has become the first port in India to begin implementing an advanced Anti-Drone System to strengthen maritime and coastal security. The system integrates RF and radar-based technologies, offering 360° coverage up to 5 km, with real-time detection, tracking and neutralisation of unauthorised drones in complex port environments.
