World Bamboo Day 2025

World Bamboo Day 2025 will be observed on 18 September across the globe to promote awareness about bamboo as a sustainable and versatile resource. Often called “green gold”, bamboo is vital for rural livelihoods, environmental protection, and innovation in design and industry. India, as one of the largest bamboo producers, plays a significant role in bamboo promotion through initiatives like the National Bamboo Mission. The theme for 2025 is: “Next Generation Bamboo: Solution, Innovation, and Design.”

Anandkumar Velkumar Wins India’s First-Ever Gold at Speed Skating World Championships

Anandkumar Velkumar, 22, created history by winning India’s first-ever gold medal at the Speed Skating World Championships in China, clinching the senior men’s 1000m sprint title with a timing of 1:24.924s. His gold came a day after he secured India’s first senior World medal by winning bronze in the 500m sprint (43.072s) at the same championships in Beidaihe, China.

Australia Approves World’s First Chlamydia Vaccine to Protect Endangered Koalas

Australia’s regulator approved the world’s first vaccine to protect koalas from chlamydia, a disease causing infertility and death. The single-dose vaccine was developed by the University of the Sunshine Coast after over a decade of research led by Prof. Peter Timms. Trials showed the vaccine reduced chlamydia symptoms and cut mortality in wild koala populations by at least 65%.
Andhra Pradesh to Build Space City, Defence Hubs

The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish a space city in Tirupati and two major defence manufacturing hubs in Madakasira. Himachal Declared Fully Literate with 99.3% Literacy
