India achieved an unprecedented milestone at the 2025 Speed Skating World Championships in Beidaihe, China, as two Indian athletes—Anandkumar Velkumar and Krish Sharma—clinched gold medals in their respective categories. The event marked India’s first-ever World Championship titles in speed skating, a sport traditionally dominated by countries like South Korea, Colombia, and Italy.

India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2025, following a match-winning performance in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at The Oval. Despite playing only one match during the month, Siraj’s standout spell was enough to edge past competitors Matt Henry (New Zealand) and Jayden Seales (West Indies) to secure the prestigious honour.

In a major achievement for Bihar’s education ecosystem, Muzaffarpur district has ranked first in the country in the Inspire Award 2025 for submitting the highest number of innovative student ideas. The district outperformed major urban centers like Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Lucknow, with a total of 7,403 student submissions. The rankings were released on 13 September 2025 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, which runs the Inspire Award – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) scheme to promote innovation among students of classes 6 to 10.

INS Nistar, India’s newly commissioned indigenously-built Diving Support Vessel (DSV), made its maiden port call at Changi Naval Base, Singapore, to participate in the multinational Exercise Pacific Reach 2025 (XPR 25). The exercise officially began on 15 September 2025, and marks a key moment in India’s expanding role in maritime safety and international naval cooperation. INS Nistar, which was commissioned on 18 July 2025, is part of India’s broader strategy for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance) in defence and shipbuilding, boasting over 80% indigenous components.

Justice M Sundar was formally sworn in as the 10th Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on September 15, 2025, marking another significant appointment in India’s higher judiciary. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, in Imphal, where Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath at around 10 a.m. This appointment follows the retirement of Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, who held the post for a brief tenure beginning May 22, 2025, and retired just a day before Justice Sundar’s swearing-in.

On 14 September 2025, retired IAS officer Amit Khare, who currently serves as Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was appointed as Secretary to the Vice-President of India, CP Radhakrishnan. The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and comes days after Radhakrishnan’s swearing-in as India’s new Vice-President.

On 15 September 2025, Acharya Devvrat, the Governor of Gujarat, officially took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The oath of office was administered by Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar. This appointment comes following the vacation of the post by C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was recently elected as the Vice-President of India. President Droupadi Murmu had, earlier last week, appointed Devvrat to discharge the functions of Maharashtra Governor in addition to his existing responsibilities in Gujarat.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first bamboo-based ethanol plant in Golaghat, Assam, a ₹5,000-crore “zero-waste” facility, and also laid the foundation stone of a ₹7,230-crore polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery.

The bioethanol plant will benefit farmers and tribal communities, sourcing five lakh tonnes of green bamboo annually from four northeastern States to produce ethanol, acetic acid, furfural, and food-grade carbon dioxide.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated India’s largest and most modern sports complex at Naranpura, Ahmedabad. Built at a cost of 825 crore rupees, the complex features a world-class aquatic complex and state-of-the-art facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, along with training and residential amenities for athletes.
