International Dog Day: Celebrating Canine Companions on August 26

Every year on August 26, the world comes together to celebrate International Dog Day, a heartfelt tribute to man’s best friend. From being loyal companions to serving in law enforcement, therapy, and rescue missions, dogs hold a special place in our lives. This day not only celebrates their contributions but also emphasizes the importance of dog adoption and welfare. International Dog Day was first celebrated in 2004 by Colleen Paige, a well-known animal welfare activist and pet lifestyle expert. The date was personally meaningful—August 26 was the day her family adopted “Sheltie,” their first rescue dog, when Colleen was just 10 years old.
