Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul of Thailand has been elected as the 20th president of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), succeeding Poul-Erik Høyer of Denmark, who held the position for 12 years. She is only the second woman to lead the BWF, after Lu Shengrong of China (1993–2001), and brings a strong leadership track record as the president of the Badminton Association of Thailand.
